Another new machine 🙂 Although fibre laser metal marking machines have a relatively small working area (depending on which lens is used) ours has various attachments that allow for greater areas to be marked, up to approximately 1000mm x 300mm.
At 100w power, this isn’t the kind of machine that you see cutting big sheets of steel, but it’s firmly in the industrial category, and is capable of surface marking as well as deep engraving all metals. For example, there’s enough power to “machine” a coin out of solid copper as well as cut the outer shape.
A machine like this is especially useful for branding things like con-rods and shafts etc, as well as lesser items like the stainless keyrings and plastic badges in the pics below.
Notice the different colour engraving on the stainless steel. A feature of MOPA fibre lasers is that there are an almost limitless combination of settings that can be applied for different effects.
These machines aren’t cheap to buy, but because they work so fast, the parts that they create are not expensive – for example, those little key fobs are just a couple of quid each.
